A few months ago we posted about Neckclothitania, which is the first known definitive guide on how to tie a tie. But just like today, the publishing market was extremely competitive back then, and a similar book was published in 1828 called “The Art of tying the Cravat”. Written by H. Le Blanc, this manuscript contains sixteen different lessons and thirty-two different styles specific to tying and appropriately wearing a cravat (which is an early version of a necktie).
As always, we’d recommend more current literature, but if you are short on reading list ideas for the summer (or short on cash), you can always pick this book up for free on google books. Our monthly tie club will happily deliver you enough ties to keep you busy learning.
